PAYDAY CHECKLIST — IsMyPayRight — version 1.0 — 24 October 2026 https://www.ismypayright.co.uk/resources 1. CHECK THE PERIOD Match the pay date, dates covered and frequency. Monthly and four-weekly pay cover different periods. Check your employer's cut-off for overtime or changes. 2. CHECK WHAT YOU EARNED Compare gross earnings with agreed pay, recorded hours, leave, commission and adjustments. Ask which dates and earnings a missing or unfamiliar line covers. 3. CHECK DEDUCTIONS SEPARATELY Copy the full tax code including S/C and W1/M1/X/NONCUM markers. Compare it with HMRC's record. Check the pension method and earnings basis with payroll. For student loans, check your plan and whether a postgraduate loan is also due. 4. RECONCILE THE CASH Gross earnings minus cash deductions plus reimbursements/adjustments should explain net pay. A correct subtraction does not prove each deduction is right. Compare the net figure with the actual bank payment and any separate payment. 5. ASK A SPECIFIC QUESTION Give the pay date, changed line and observed amount. Ask which calculation or instruction was used and when you can expect an explanation. Use your employer's private channel; do not post payslips or personal identifiers publicly.
