Subject: Question about [pay date] payslip — [specific line]

Hello [payroll team],

Please could you explain [line or calculation] on my payslip dated [date],
covering [period]?

The payslip shows [label and amount]. [Previous payslip / agreed hours / contract
or other record] shows [relevant fact]. I have attached the relevant record using
our usual private channel.

Could you confirm [choose the relevant question]:
- which dates, hours or earnings were included;
- which tax code and cumulative/non-cumulative basis were used;
- which pensionable earnings and contribution method were used;
- which student-loan plan and postgraduate-loan instruction were applied; or
- what authorises the deduction and how its amount was worked out?

I used [a comparison/checker, if relevant] to organise the figures. Its estimate
does not include all payroll history, so I would like to understand your records
and calculation before drawing a conclusion.

Please let me know when I can expect an explanation and, if a correction is
needed, how and when it will be reflected in pay and the relevant records.
